Head of Human Resources

Our Head of Human Resources will need to work with other team members to enrich and bolster the most valuable asset within the library: our employees. If you enjoy working with and understanding individuals, while helping them to become their best selves, then we have an opportunity for you. The position will assist with hiring, training, and maintaining our workforce, as well as our varied volunteer base. Some duties from the job description are:

  • I make sure the library complies with all federal, state, and local human resources requirements and laws, and maintain all personnel records.
  • I lead other supervisors in supervision, including but not limited to recruiting, selecting, coaching, counseling and disciplining of staff. I stay knowledgeable and recommend current human resource best practices.
  • I implement human resource policies and procedures for staffing and employment processing. I assist and act as backup for the Head of Finance for compensation, benefits, and payroll.
  • I demonstrate an ongoing commitment to making our workplace equitable, diverse, and inclusive.
  • I recommend health and safety procedures regarding workers’ compensation.
  • I help run human resources by having regular communication with staff as necessary, prepare reports as required, and in general oversee daily operations to be sure we are offering our best to library patrons and staff.

The position is 32 hrs/wk and may occasionally include after-hours work when emergency issues arise. Starting salary for the position is $22.14/hr. This position will include annual, sick and holiday benefits. Education and experience needed: Bachelor’s degree required; coursework, experience and/or certification in Human Resources preferred. Marketing Assistant

KHCPL is hiring a marketing assistant to work eight hours per week for $14.82 per hour. You will create or assist in the creation of Instagram and other social media marketing posts, including taking photographs and videos. You may create graphics for occasional special projects. You may staff marketing booths at events, and help make and edit videos and PowerPoint presentations. Requirements: Associate's or bachelor's degree, one year or more experience in graphics and/or marketing, and proficient in Adobe Creative Suite software. Must have a valid Indiana’s driver’s license, or the ability to attain one.

Head of Childrens

The Kokomo-Howard County Public Library is looking for a Head of Children’s Services to work with us in creating opportunities for our library and our community. If you want to work with children and educators to make a difference and to provide equal, valued learning opportunities, then you could be the leader we are looking for at KHCPL. Some things you will be responsible for: provide daily operation support of the Children’s Department, coordinate children’s programming and activities within the department and system-wide, and be part of a leadership team which is collectively responsible for achieving common objectives for the library. Qualifications are an accredited MLIS or equivalent, Indiana State certification LC3 or higher, and at least three years relevant experience as a supervisor. Candidates must also have a valid Indiana driver’s license, or the ability to obtain one by their date of hire. Starting pay for the position is $25.22 an hour. This is an exempt, full-time position that requires at least 40 hours a week, and will sometimes include evening or weekend hours to fulfill programming obligations. The primary responsibility for this position will create an inviting library by cleaning, sanitizing, and dusting all areas of the buildings, both private and public. The custodian will keep things looking nice by cleaning windows and other areas regularly, and by cleaning up spills and maintaining café areas regularly and as needed. Routinely empty trash and sort and collect recyclable materials. Pay particular attention to spotless restrooms by cleaning, sanitizing, and stocking each day, as well as regular maintenance and deep cleaning. High School diploma or equivalent/one- year experience working with the public. Friendly, approachable, flexible, cooperative, enjoy working alone, work well with little supervision and tolerant of routine work.

Children's Outreach Librarian

The Kokomo-Howard County Public Library is seeking someone who loves to engage with the public through innovative programming. Our Children’s Outreach Librarian will plan, oversee, and practice programming both in and out of the library walls, and will provide opportunities for youth of all ages to learn and grow. Requirements include: MLS or MLIS from ALA accredited school; a valid Indiana driver’s license, or the ability to attain one; current Indiana Public Library certification, or the ability to attain one, level 3 or higher. The position is 36 hours a week and includes some evenings and weekends. Benefits include Health, vision and dental insurance, as well as retirement. Great leave time included. Page and Clerical Positions:

Applications for library page and clerical positions are accepted at all times, even when there are no openings, and are kept active for six months. An application may be filled out at any library location, or Apply Online.

Library Page: Part-time. Starting wage is $8.82 / hour. Days and hours of work vary. In most page positions, the primary responsibility is shelving books. Other duties might include shelf reading, locating materials, affixing labels on new materials, covering paperbacks, filing, and occasionally assisting patrons.

Library Clerk: Part-time. Starting wage is $11.33 / hour. Days and hours of work vary. Clerks perform tasks in many library departments. Duties range from processing new library materials, library card registration, collecting library fines and assisting patrons with checking out.
